The Gun Owners of Arkansas are busy during the legislative session.

They hosted a “Meet Your Legislator” event on the second day of the legislative session right after Gov. Sarah Sanders “State of the State” speech on Jan. 14.

The group recently posted on its Facebook page that it’s compiling “a list of residents from all over the state who want to and are willing to reach out to their lawmakers as necessary. Click the link for more information.”

On Feb. 15 at 1 p.m., the group hosts its first fundraiser. Proceeds from the Little Rock event benefit the group and Arkansas 4-H shooting sports. The event will be held at the Vines Center, which is connected to Arkansas 4-H Center 10 miles west of Little Rock off of Highway 10 at #1 Four-H Way.

“The preservation of our future right to possess and utilize firearms hinges on the younger generation, especially as many of them are drifting away from the foundational values that many of us have long assumed,” Gary Epperson, president of Gun Owners of Arkansas, told the Reckoning.

“Historically, hunting has been an instinctual activity for the majority. Although the Second Amendment encompasses much more than hunting alone, fostering and motivating our youth to engage in various shooting sports will aid in safeguarding our liberties and sustaining their interest for the future. This is why Gun Owners of Arkansas has taken interest in 4-H shooting sports, which provides a means for every youth to get involved regardless of economic background.”

Republican Congressman Bruce Westerman, who represents Arkansas’ 4th Congressional District, is a special guest speaker along with Commissioner of State Lands Tommy Land.

Susanna Watt will sing the national anthem, and Jamie Land, Tommy Land’s daughter, is the master of ceremonies for the afternoon event.

Louisiana Republican Congressman Clay Higgins is the event’s featured speaker.

Earlier this month, Higgins announced the introduction of H.R. 163, the Finish the Wall Act to resume construction of the border wall system.

His bi-partisan legislation with Virginia Democratic Congressman Gerry Connolly’s the Federal Register Modernization Act was signed into law on January 4, 2025.

“The bill eliminates the requirement to print thousands of copies of the Federal Register and replaces the outdated practice with an electronic publication supplemented by sufficient quantities of physical publications,” according to Higgins’ website.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee had planned to attend the event.

The Gun Owners of Arkansas recently posted this on their Facebook page:

We received word that Governor Mike Huckabee will not be able to attend our fundraiser. While we are disappointed, we congratulate him on this appointment. Their statement:

“As I’m sure you’re aware, President Trump has appointed Gov. Huckabee to be the Ambassador to Israel. We have been anxiously awaiting the US Senate confirmation details and while we still don’t have any final information, it is fairly safe to say that he will no longer be able to attend this event in February. We expect that he will be living in Israel by that time. I apologize for this unexpected schedule change and how it impacts your event. Of course, he would have loved to attend and would have been happy to say the opening prayer. We hope you have a successful event and again, so sorry he has to now cancel his attendance.”

We still have a great lineup and hope y’all will join us for this exciting event.
